Leaf "peepers" this photo was taken from the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 328.3 around 6:45 pm. Slowly but surely leaf colors are beginning to change. As I drove between Linville Falls and Milepost 331 glimpses of color were everywhere. I observed two dramatic "patches" of orange color, this one and another close to the Heffner Gap overlook. Colors begin to show at the higher elevations, and the stretch of Parkway between these two mileposts are 3,000 to 4,000 feet above sea level.
Professional "leaf forecasters" have amended our color season. Peak season for our lower elevations in and around the Lake James, Marion, and Old Fort areas are predicted to turn during the first week of November. The mountain back roads include our favorite drives like the Lake James Loop. No traffic jams, simply unforgettable landscapes and views. You cannot go wrong visiting anytime, year-round, particularly any day in October! Call to receive free maps. 888-233-6111Share on Twitter Share on Facebook
