November - What's Happening?

What's next for November? On November weekends, the NC State Park Rangers are hosting guided hikes and events taking place at Lake James State Park.  These include stargazing, autumn hikes identifying woodland creatures and plants, and a morning photo safari!  These are free activities, be certain to save your place by registering. The lake trails are amazing.

Escape the big city and take care of your holiday shopping with us!  First up, is the Lake James Art Show and Sale on November 22nd and 23rd.  You'll find one of a kind arts and crafts, and handmade jewelry. Stop by The 310 District in downtown Marion to pick up more unique gifts.  Shuck's Pearls, Keeper's Cut Meadery, Simply, Mica Town Brewing, Flavors On Main, the McDowell Arts Council Gift Shop, The Makery, and the Vintage Market are a few places to pick up special finds for those you love.

Find the Christmas spirit in Old Fort on the evening of November 23rd as residents and officials at the Old Fort Train Station and Museum light up the town.  Next, soak up some holiday cheer when you attend Marion's Annual Christmas Parade on the afternoon of November 24th.  It's a small-town Christmas event with lots of marching bands, music, floats, and of course Santa Claus.  Last year Bigfoot made an appearance, we'll wait to see if he's in the spirit this year!
