We're approaching the end of the 2020 leaf season. This week our higher elevations have lost the majority of their color. Lower elevations with southern slopes remain very colorful.
Over the weekend, as predicted, leaf color peaked right on time for those areas located above 3,000 feet. The areas are north of Blue Ridge Parkway Milepost 316, in the Grandfather, Blowing Rock, Boone areas.
This weekend, remnants of Hurricane Delta passed over western North Carolina. The morning was foggy, but the leaf colors are still beautiful.
Warm days and cool nights create magnificent leaf color. If the weather forecast holds, colors should be showing up soon. This was taken at a Blue Ridge Parkway overlook between Bear Den and Linville Falls. Colors are just beginning to turn as we begin the 2020 leaf season. Stay tuned!
