Lake James State Park
In the darkest days of the American Revolution a rag-tag band of frontiersmen set out in pursuit of a roving army of British Loyalists intent on bringing the untamed South to heel. The chase took place across hundreds of miles and four states, culminating in the Battle of King’s Mountain in South Carolina. Part of that journey took place along the Catawba River in what is now Lake James State Park. Retrace the steps of those American heroes with Park Ranger Jamie Cameron as we hike a 1-mile section of the Overmountain Victory Trail. Meet at the Holly Discovery Trail parking lot (near the Paddy’s Creek Bridge) in the Paddy’s Creek Area at 1:30 p.m.
